Households and businesses to benefit from interest rates reduction on unpaid energy bills

Households and businesses could benefit from 75% reduction in interests rate over unpaid energy bills if payments are submitted by end of October

The government has today announced that households and businesses can benefit from reduced interest rates on their unpaid energy bills.

The scheme will lead to a partial exemption on payments of  interests on pending bills, government said, adding that the scheme is valid from 1 September to 31 October.

The scheme was devised following talks government held with business community leaders and employers following the nationwide blackout in August.

The statement said that the scheme would incentivise households and businesses to regularise their position by offering them the possibility of having a 75% reduction on the interests due if the full payment is made during the two-month window.

Households and businesses that make the payment within a month of the scheme’s expiry will benefit from a 25% reduction on the interest payments.
