Up to 10 ALE officers have been transferred over the last year, some for their political allegiances and others for resisting pressures in carrying out their duties. A home affairs ministry spokesperson denied this, saying that transfers were carried out according to exigencies within the Police Force that required officers in other units.

The Malta Union of Teachers has called for a probe into the way allegations of sexual abuse against teachers are handled by police, saying that the criminal system is being used to tarnish teachers' reputations. The MUT said that once allegations reached the police, no investigations were carried out and the accused was prosecuted immediately.
