In the Press: PM defends Malta after Amnesty report

In reaction to a report issued by Amnesty International, PM Joseph Muscat said that the organization was putting pressure on the wrong countries. He said that cooperation between Malta and Italy has never been as strong as this year and that larger countries should assist in securing Europe's borders.

A shop and showroom owner in Gozo foiled two burglars in their plans to make off with about €175,000. The two soldiers, one from Valletta, the other from Zabbar, made their escape over the roof of another building after the owner caught them red-handed. They are currently helping the police in their invetigations.

A migrant trafficker has told this newspaper that once migrant boats leave shore, he and his counterparts are no longer responsible for them. The man, based in Egypt, expressed sorrow for the recent spate of migrant deaths at sea and said that families threatened him and held him responsible for the deaths of their loved ones.

A last-minute objection filed by the FKNK could push the referendum on spring hunting back, allowing another hunting season to open. The hunters' federation will contest the right for the referendum to be held.
