A six-storey emergency ward had been approved for construction near the present emergency ward. Initial plans to expand the emergency department's premises stalled because of fears that the stucture could not support extra floors.

A report published this year suggests that the company does not have the liquid assets needed to make its upcoming payments.

The Dominican order in Malta has stopped Fr Charles Grech, who is facing allegations of sexual abuse, from giving sacraments. He has also been removed from the post of director of Kerygma.

The Chinese ambassador has denied receiving gifts from the Leisure Clothing Company, after allegations surfaced in the media. General Workers Union secretary general Tony Zarb also denied receiving gifts but implied that officials from the previous government did.
