Six cases before the Permanent Commission against Corruption

Permanent Commission against Corruption currently investigating six cases of alleged corruption

The Permanent Commission against Corruption is investigating six cases of alleged corruption, Justice Minister Owen Bonnici told parliament.

He was replying to a question raised by Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi.

The question raised by the MP focused on how many cases of corruption were being investigated following the removal of time-barring from cases of political corruption. The reply given was however generic, with the Minister arguing that he would be in a position to only say when the investigations were initiated.

Following an amendment pushed by the Labour government, also proposed by the PN in its electoral manifesto for the 2013 general elections, a 10-year prescription on crimes of political corruption by MPs was removed.

In a separate reply, Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia said that, following the amendment, the Police were investigating one case of alleged corruption involving a member of a local council.
