The Opposition has called for the removal of the minister of home affairs from his post, a call the Prime Minister ignored. Muscat did however express 'anger and disgust' at the way the minister's security driver fired shots at a man's car after he hit the minister's vehicle. The officer has been suspended from all duties until an inquiry is concluded.

Opposition leader Simon Busuttil said yesterday that the minister of home affairs' position is no longer tenable and that the minister's attempt to hide the truth about details of the incident was cause for concern.

Minister for education Evarist Bartolo has emphasized the importance of reaching out to youths before they are lost to a spiral of unemployment and benefits dependence. An estimated 7,000 youths between the ages of 16 and 24 are neither in school nor in employment.

Police officer Paul Sheehan was described by minister Manuel Mallia as a quiet man and responded to questions about his knowledge of Sheehan's past - which includes a criminal conviction - by saying that that was the police force's responsibility, not the ministry.
