Fuel prices decrease by a few cents

The price of petrol has decreased by 2c to €1.42 per litre while that of diesel has gone down by 1c to €1.35.

As of today, the price of unleaded petrol per litre has decreased by 2c while that of diesel has decreased by 1c. Therefore, a litre of petrol now costs €1.42 and a litre of diesel costs €1.35.

The revised prices, which were announced in the Budget for 2015, will remain fixed until at least the end of March.

Pointing at the global plummeting of oil prices, the Opposition has claimed that the government is keeping fuel prices at a high cost so as to finance last year’s reduction in electricity tariffs.

Citing statistics from Europe’s Energy Portal, shadow energy minister George Pullicino pointed out that, excluding taxes, Malta had paid €0.71 per litre of petrol, higher than any other EU country and far above the EU average of €0.56.

The government accused the Opposition of using information from an “unofficial website” whose figures are contrary to those of the European Commission.
