Respite services launched in Gozo

The service can be accessed immediately through the Department for Community Care or the activeageing.gov.mt website.

Parliamentary secretary for active ageing Justyne Caruana has announced the launch of a new respite service in Gozo, aimed at addressing a deficit in services for the elderly on the island.

Caruana announced the new service during a visit to the San Lawrence home for the elderly, which will be providing the service by means of two beds, purchased through a Public-private partnership. The service can be accessed immediately through the Department for Community Care or the activeageing.gov.mt website.

The government has, in the past months, tripled the respite services offered at Casa Leone, through a Public-Church Partnership.

“This is an important step forward, which shows that the government is committed to increase and strengthen community care, both for the elderly and for persons with disabilities,” Caruana said. She also said that further services for Gozo will be introduced in future.
