Lower oil prices have given a welcome and unexpected boost to Air Malta. The company stands to save millions every month in fuel costs, helping to stem its losses.

The absence of around 40 route buses, after the contract with the Unscheduled Bus Service expired last Saturday, caused commuters headaches as the new bus operator scrambled to hire private vans to keep up.

L-Orizzont

Some three individuals are taking turns sleeping rough in the St Luke's hospital grounds, taking shelter in the access ramp to the emergency department. The newspaper yesterday reported that one man was regularly seen sleeping on the bus stop outside the hospital.

Although the government has issued a call for new designs for the much maligned monti stalls, its plan to have them situated in the stretch of road between the old opera house and the new parliament building is still in place.
