'Fuel prices still highest amongst EU' - PN

'Scandalous that the PL keeps blowing its trumpets whenever the European average increases by a few cents' - PN

The Nationalist Party said that the latest statistics released by the European Commission “confirmed” that families and businesses were paying amongst the highest prices in Europe.

“According to the latest statistics, Maltese consumers were paying the sixth and eighth highest prices of diesel and petrol respectively,” it said.

“It is scandalous that the PL keeps blowing its trumpets whenever the European average increases by a few cents.”

The PN said that the only reductions so far were made following pressure exerted by its leader.

The weighted average price of petrol across the euro area is of €1.39 while across the EU28 is of €1.37. The weighted average price of diesel across the euro area is of €1.24 while across the EU28 is of €1.26. The price of petrol in Malta is €1.38 while that of diesel is €1.31.

Further reductions are expected in March and April.
