Applications open for voluntary organisation fund scheme

President opens applications for a fund within the Malta Community Chest Fund aimed at supporting projects launched by voluntary organisations.

Applications have opened for a scheme to support projects launched by voluntary organisations. €900,000 have been allocated to this fund that falls within the Malta Community Chest Fund.

“This fund is intended to enhance social justice by promoting voluntary organisations whose work revolves around solidarity and social protection,” President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca said ahead of an information session with interested organiations. “The fund is also there to   reward volunteers for their work in helping vulnerable people, as well as to encourage co-operation between voluntary NGOs.”

A board will establish the criteria for the selection of projects. Those dealing with social issues – including education, work, poverty, health, migration, disability, social dialogue and ecology – will be given preference. Projects that involve the collaboration of two or more NGOs will also be given preference, as will those that include mechanisms to measure their success, and those that can sustain themselves when the Istrina funds dry out.

An appeals board will allow NGOs to defend their projects if they have not been selected for funding.

Applications will remain open until 10 April and further information can be found on http://www.president.gov.mt/mccf/Pages/default.aspx
