€200,000 works on St Paul's Bay housing estates announced

Family Minister Michael Farrugia announces plans to carry out maintenance works on housing estates iaround the island

Earlier today, Family Minister Michael Farrugia said that construction works on housing estates in St. Paul’s Bay had just begun.

“This year the housing authority will be carrying maintenance at a number of housing estates around the country,” Farrugia explained.

Farrugia said that the authority had launched three ambitious projects that would entail extensive restoration projects both on the facades and the interiors of eleven estates in Rahal Gdid, Isla and St. Paul’s Bay. The latter is one of the constituencies that will be holding local council elections on 11th April this year.

“In these past weeks, the housing authority has been preparing tenders for the process, and we are pleased to announce that works have commenced on the first site within St. Paul’s Bay,” Farrugia said.

Farrugia added that the St. Paul’s Bay project was a €200,000 investment that would benefit the 24 residents of the building.

“We hope that work will also begin on four complexes in Rahal Gdid and three complexes in Isla very soon,” Farrugia added, explaining that discussions for the Isla project were currently being finalized.

Farrugia explained that the tenders had fallen behind schedule because the authority had received submissions that amounted to more than double the authority’s estimated values. He added that the tenders had to be issued anew due to this issue.

“There are plans for more works of the kind on similar buildings, including 120 other housing estates,” he said. “The projects would require a collaboration with fourteen local councils and a total expenditure of €800,000.”
