Army acquires third helicopter valued at €14 million

Seventy soldiers join the Armed Forces of Malta

The Armed Forces of Malta has signed the contract by which it will acquire a third helicopter for its fleet. The €14 million investment is co-financed by the European Union.

Presiding over the passing-out parade of 70 recruits – three of which were women – Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said the investment will strengthen the AFM in its operations.

The government is also in the process of purchasing purchase radios and bulletproof vests at an investment of €250,000.

The recruitment of 100 new soldiers is underway.

According to the minister, over 500 individuals would have joined the disciplined forces by the end of the month.

Abela said the government was working to improve their working conditions while at the same time working to improve the conditions at the place of work.

Encouraging more people to join the disciplined forces, Abela said the country was in need of the youth’s energy and talents.
