Six Italians are to be extradited to Italy after an investigation by Italian police  reveals that the Italian Mafia was allegedly using local betting companies for money laundering. Six gaming companies registered in Malta saw their assets seized and licenses eliminated after Italian police clamped down on illegal gaming activities connected to the Calabrian Mafia, ‘Ndrangheta in their international operation.

Workers in the Rapid Intervention Unit were finally given new combat trousers. After a report which appeared on the media about allegations that the workers had not received new uniforms to replace torn ones despite informal requests over the past couple of weeks. The 32 workers were currently undergoing intensive training in riot control among others.

Italian President Sergio Mattarella paid an official visit to Malta yesterday, where he met with the highest Maltese authorities including President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and Opposition leader Simon Busuttil. He also visitied the Upper Barrakka gardens and the new parliament building where he met with Speaker Anglu Farrugia.

Italian president Sergio Mattarella says that the EU’s decision to have refugees relocated to other countries from Greece and Italy is an important first step.  Referring to the EU’s decision to relocate some 40,000 refugees over the next two years, Mattarella said that this was the first step towards sharing the burden of migration amongst member states.
