In the Press: Police force received 117 requests for resignation, retirement this year

The European Commission has unveiled plans for the relocation of 40,000 refugees from Italy and Greece, with another 20,000 being resettled from outside the EU.

117 requests for resignation or retirement have been made to the Police Commissioner this year, by far the highest in the past decade. This includes some senior and experienced officers. Commissioner Michael Cassar however said there was no cause for alarm.

An Italian man was handed a six-month jail term after admitting that he cultivated cannabis plants. The 37-year-old said that he grew the plants for his own personal use and that the drug had helped cure him of cancer.

Staff at Gozo General hospital are facing uncertainty afer some were told they are considered 'extra'. The UHM on the other hand maintains that there are not enough members of staff to meet patient needs.

Legal highs have caused kidney failure and cardiac issues in users of the drugs, whose effects have not yet been studied in depth by the scientific and medical communities.
