Paqpaqli supercar crash | 14 victims at Mater Dei, four still critical

The condition of a six-year-old girl who was injured in the supercar crash at Paqpaqli ghall-Istrina has improved.

The child, along with her mother, was among five people admitted to Mater Dei Hospital in critical condition.

In a statement issued on Monday late afternoon, Mater Dei Hospital confirmed that 12 patients remained in hospital. Four are still at the Intensive Therapy Unit, including the little girl and her mum who are no longer in danger of dying.

One person remains in critical condition.

The hospital said that close to100 persons sought psychological help at a section at Mater Dei Hospital set up specifically to deal with this incident.

A total of 26 people were injured: nine of them received treatment at the Paola health centre while four others were discharged from hospital on the same day. A further five patients were discharged today.

Addressing a press conference at the Paola health centre this morning, health parliamentary secretary Chris Fearne said that one of the patients admitted to hospital last night has since been discharged, and that ten of the victims require operations.” Four others have since been discharged.

Fearne said that the most common injuries sustained were fractures, as well as injuries to the head, chest and abdomen.
