Paul Bailey, the man behind the wheel of a Porsche supercar that crashed into spectators during charity event last Sunday, was discharged from Mater Dei hospital, at around 1pm today and taken to court but the planned arriagnment was not held.

Bailey left the hospital in a wheelchair earlier this afternoon accompanied by police officers. He had a bandage over a wound on his head and looked visibly moved, but made no comment as he was assisted into the police car.

News reports say that Bailey gave his testimony to the inquiry magistrate while he was in hospital, and his arraigment was due  this afternoon, but the sitting was cancelled.

Paul Bailey, a British multi-millionaire, suffered grievous injuries when his Porsche 918 Spyder crashed into the crowd at Sunday’s Paqpaqli ghall-Istrina motorshow at Luqa.

A further 25 people suffered injuries during the crash.

Bailey is believed to be the first person to have owned the ‘Holy Trinity’ of supercars – the Porsche 918 Spyder, a McLaren P1 and a LaFerrari. He is said to own a further 27 supercars.

He has raised thousands for charity by raffling off £1 tickets for people to win a ride in his McLaren P1.

“I live a very surreal life and being the first to own all three cars does not feel real,” Bailey had told the Daily Mail in an interview. “This is why I want to use and share the cars with enthusiasts. It is too early to say which is the best as they are all totally amazing. I will be able to better comment when I have driven them back to back on the race track.”

A magisterial inquiry has been launched into the accident.
