In the Press: Libyan factions in Malta to discuss peace deal

Benefit fraud is being made easy by a lack of checks into claimants' requests for social assistance. The National Audit Office has revealed that regular checks are not being performed and only done when a change in claimants' situations is substantial enough to warrant further investigation.

Heads of the two rival governments in Libya are in Malta to discuss a deal to form a unity government. The Tripoli and Tobruk governments rejected a UN deal, saying that the country should be given more time to come to an accord on its own terms.

The general manager of a St James clinic in Tripoli, Pierre Baldacchino, was kidnapped yesterday by armed men as he was driving home. It is not yet known whether his assailants have made any demands for ransom or where he has been taken. 

L-Orizzont

Two new wards have been inaugurated at St Vincent de Paule residence, able to accomodate a total of 80 residents. The wards are part of an extensive refurbishment project and cost some €1.5 million.

The Malta Independent

The National Audit Office has flagged shortcomings in the monitoring of fuel consumption of cars used by the OPM. Logbooks on fuelling were not kept up to date, nor were they checked regularly by an authorized officer.
