Updated | Gozitan students urge transport authorities to improve bus schedules

Route X1 will no longer pass through Mellieha, will make stops at Mater Dei Hospital

The Gozo University Group (GUG), together with the youth coordinator for the Ministry for Gozo, held talks with Transport Malta regarding several complaints that have affected Gozitan students ever since the change of routes.

One of the issues included the change in the route X1 schedule, which had removed the stop at Mater Dei Hosptial. The GUG said this had caused huge problems to health students, travelling from Gozo.

The GUG also complained that the bus still passes through Mellieha en route to the centre of Malta, to which Transport Malta retorted that it will no longer do so, following suggestions of the same group of students.

The GUG said TM agreed that the X1 would start stopping again at Mater Dei. It however noted that the route would still include Mellieha although it was agreed that the bus would skip the 10-minute wait at the airport. Students will thus manage to make it to Cirkewwa on time to catch the ferry.

“We received numerous complaints of buses not respecting the schedule. We urged Transport Malta to fix this problem immediately as bus delays are a pressing concern,” the GUG said.

GUG said it would continue to monitor the situation and insist for a better service.
