Food delivery by drones coming to Malta… (is it April Fool’s yet?)

Forget airmail – someone has set up a website and promo video promising to deliver your takeaway meal by drone…

‘Oh look, our Vindaloo is landing right now…’
‘Oh look, our Vindaloo is landing right now…’

“Drone Delivery is a Maltese drone technology company that has developed a delivery system with the capability of bringing packages to people’s doorsteps, including food deliveries,” reads a craftily packaged press statement, complete with Facebook page and website.

It’s 31 March… just the right day for an elaborate April Fool’s prank.

“The startup is still perfecting the technology but has already signed agreements with more than 50 retailers. Drone Delivery expects to start serving customers before the end of the year.

“The drones, which are being sourced from a highly specialised drone company in the US, use a rechargeable fuel cell allowing them to fly for more than two hours at a time. Drone Delivery will start by only delivering items within a 2kg limit, but its capabilities are expected to increase as the technology improves.”

According to Drone Delivery, Malta would be the perfect testing ground for the technology due to the island’s small size and relatively stable weather.

Who’s behind Drone Delivery? “A joint venture between two technology companies based in Dubai and Malta.” Oh sure, drop in Dubai for that mark of zany quality and outlandish money-spinners.

P.S. If this is not an April Fool's prank, we will eat a Panama hat.
