Unemployment fell across all categories with registered unemployment rate now at 2.1 per cent

In September, the number of people registering for work stood at 3,207, down by 1,717 when compared to the same period last year – a reduction of roughly 30%. September saw 37% less men registering for work, while the number of females registering for work went down by 28%.

Latest figures provided by the National Statistics Office (NSO) indicate a decrease of 1,503 persons registering under Part I and a decrease of 214 among those registering under Part II when compared with September 2015, with decreases being registered among all age groups.

A decrease was registered in all categories and irrespective of how long individuals were on the register with the largest decrease recorded among persons who had been registering for over a year.

The number of persons with a disability who were registering for work also saw a drop, falling by 23 to 375.

The registered unemployment rate in September 2016 stood at 2.1 per cent of the labour supply, (excluding part-time employment), and stands at 2.4 per cent among men to 1.5 per cent among women.
