No one injured as bus goes up in flames

A public transport bus caught fire around 6pm on Sunday, but the driver and passengers got off safely

No one was injured when a bus went up in flames in the vicinity of Ghar Dalam, limits of Birzebbugia, late on Sunday afternoon.

MaltaToday is informed that numerous fire engines and ambulances raced to the scene when a public transport bus caught fire and was quickly engulfed in flames at around 6pm on Sunday.

The driver and passengers were all reported to be safe, after getting off the bus before it was completely gutted by the fire that raged until the fire engines could reach the vehicle.

Malta Public Transport said in a statement that the driver had become suspicious after hearing strange noises coming from the engine compartment. He pulled to the side and instructed the passengers to disembark, only moments before the bus caught fire.

The company praised the driver for his prompt actions and the CPD for the swift response. It t said it was cooperating with police to determine what caused the fire.

Police investigations are continuing.
