Following last year's 8km swim, Michelle Muscat raised the stakes today, as she swam from Ta' Fra Ben to Marsamxett Harbour.

The swim was the longest one yet, after last year's 8km swim and 2015's 6km one.

Accompanied by her daughter Soleil, Muscat looked nervous as she got aboard the boat at 10am this morning, a rosary bead tied to her wrist.

Speaking to MaltaToday, Michelle Muscat said: "I think preparations have been going on for over three years. First I took on a 6km swim, then an 8 km one. Today I'll be swimming a total of 10km."

The swim took just over 6 hours, double the time of last year's swim.

Muscat took on this endeavor alone, after being joined by the Malta Special Olympics team in 2015.

Her husband, PM Joseph Muscat, and daughters Soleil and Etoile were also present, looking on in support.

All donations from the charity swim are going towards the Marigold Foundation, which supports NGOs that empower the vulnerable.  Muscat is the chairperson of the foundation. You can donate to the Marigold Foundation here.
