Customs seize tobacco products from Msida Bar

The haul included six brands of cigarettes and a over three kilos of shisha tobacco

An extensive investigation by customs department officials last week has resulted in a haul of over 42,440 cigarettes and 3 kilograms of shisha tobacco, according to a statement issued by the department.

In total, customs official seized:

32,760 Business Royals cigarettes;
4,200 Pall Mall cigarettes;
3,200 American Legend cigarettes;
1,560 Richman cigarettes;
600 American Gold Eagle cigarettes;
120 Three Stars Light cigarettes

The shisha tobacco, said Customs, were discovered in a backroom.

Moreover, it added that the owner of the bar was held under arrest pending further investigations. He is expected to be charged in court in the coming hours, the department said.

In a statement, the Customs Department reiterated that dealing in contraband is a “very serious criminal offence, which, if found guilty of, could lead to harsh penalties, confiscation of property and even incarceration.

The department also called on the public to anonymously report any contraband activity on 2568 5124 or 2568 5200.
