Activists from Occupy Justice this evening held a demonstration outside of parliament where they continued to demand justice for Daphne Caruana Galizia, who was killed in a car bomb attack on 16 October.

Over the course of the weekend, the group camped outside Castille, which houses the Office of the Prime Minister, where they continued to demand the resignation of Police Commissioner Lawrence Cutajar and Attorney General Peter Grech, with the group insisting that both roles be filled by individuals who enjoy the support of a two-thirds parliamentary majority.

Addressing a political activity on Sunday, Muscat reacted to criticism by the group, that he had ignored them, by stating that he had not been aware that they had asked him to meet, adding that he was prepared to do so if they wished.

“We have come here with a copy of the email we sent out both to the Prime Minister and members of the media, because it seems the Prime Minister was the only person that didn’t receive it,” one of the protestors told MaltaToday.

The protestors, who were not there in time for Muscat’s arrival, unfurled a banner and passed out candles and placards outside parliament chanting “no change no justice”, and “justice for Galizia”.

A number of Opposition MPs, including Simon Busuttil, as well as Nationalist MEP Roberta Metsola, stopped to speak to the group of some 30 women.

During the demonstration, Tourism minister Konrad Mizzi entered the building from one of the two entrances to parliament, prompting the activists to start chanting “shame on you” and banging on the glass outside parliament.

Speaking in parliament at the end of parliamentary questions, Opposition MP Marthese Portelli tabled the letter sent to Muscat in parliament.

“This email was sent to the Prime Minister both on his official government email, as well as [email protected],” said Portelli. “I would like to hand this to you so that you can hand it directly to the Prime Minsiter.”
