Representatives of the women’s rights Facebook group Women for Women have been offered air time on local TV channel FLiving, to give their views regarding a programme transmitted in July which they claimed had “alarming and potentially harmful sexist messages”.

The presenter of the programme had told viewers that a wife was obliged to never refuse her husband sex.

This led to a group of over 800 women filing an official complaint with the Broadcasting Authority in September.

In a Facebook post earlier this week, group administrator Francesca Fenech Conti said that, following a meeting the previous day with the Broadcasting Authority, its board had suggested that they resolve the issue directly with FLiving.

The TV channel then offered them air time, the details of which have not yet been finalised.

Contacted, FLiving owner Karl Bonaci confirmed that the Women for Women group had been voluntarily offered the opportunity by FLiving to appear on the TV station and bring forward their arguments.

“We are a democratic company, and this is freedom of speech,” Bonaci said, adding that he was happy to have representatives of the group have their say.
