Belgium charges two more suspects connected to Paris attacks

Belgian courts charge two more men, 20-year-old Frenchman Samir Z and 28-year-old Belgian national listed as Pierre N,  in connection with the Paris terror attacks on November 13th

Belgian courts have charged two more men in connection with the Paris terror attacks on November 13th, which left 130 people dead throughout the city.

Prosecutors said that one of the men was held on Sunday at an airport in Brussels trying to leave for Morocco, while another was held the same day in Brussels' Molenbeek area.

The BBC reports that this brings the number of people charged in Belgium up to eight, after some of the attackers involved in the Paris attacks were revealed to have lived in Belgium. Since the attacks, Belgian authorities have carried out a number of raids looking for key suspects believed to have lived in the Molenbeek area.

Belgian prosecutors said a 20-year-old Frenchman, listed as Samir Z, had been stopped at Zaventem airport, north-west of Brussels, preparing to board a flight to Morocco in the early hours of Sunday, and they added that he was "considered to be part of the entourage of Bilal Hadfi", according to reports.

Prosecutors have also been reported saying Samir Z was suspected of "having attempted to leave for Syria at least twice in 2015".

Hadfi, on the other hand, was said to have blown himself up in a street after failing to get into the Stade de France, where a football game between France and Germany was being played.

The second arrest  took place at dawn on Sunday, when a 28 year old Belgian national listed as Pierre N, was detained in his home in Molenbeek.

Both men were placed in custody on grounds of participating in the activities of a terrorist organisation, and after appearing before a court, have had their detention extended.
