New born baby girl found dead in Irish recycling plant

Police have appealed for help in tracing the mother of a newborn baby girl whose body was discovered in a recycling plant in Ireland

A worker at the Greenstar plant discovered the body of the infant girl at about 11am on Wednesday. He was sorting through rubbish when he found the remains which he initially mistook for a toy doll.

Gardai have now launched an investigation into the discovery and have appealed for the mother of the child to come forward, as they believe she may need urgent medical attention.

Police are unsure if the baby was stillborn or not, but they have been able to confirm that it was carried to term.

“At this stage, my main focus is on the baby’s mother,” said head of the investigation superintendent Pat Ward.

It is believed the child died recently but further details, including the cause of death, will not be known until a full post-mortem examination is carried out on Thursday.
