Irish Catholic priest says Christmas has 'no sacred meaning'

Father Desmond O’Donnell tells all Christians to stop saying ‘Christmas’ as word was ‘hijacked’

An Irish Catholic priest, psychologist, and author Father Desmond O’Donnell said that Christians of all denominations should refrain from using the words ‘Christmas’ and ‘Easter’ since these have lost all sacred meaning due to “Santa and reindeer”.

O’Donnell told the Belfast Telegraph that the experience of Christmas is just as legitimate for non-believers as it is of Christians.

“I’m just trying to rescue the reality of Christmas for believers by giving up ‘Christmas’ and replacing it with another word.” he said, adding that Christmas has been commercialised so much that it will lead to the institutional breakdown of the church.
