Man acquitted of attempted murder after victims choose not to testify
A man has been cleared of attempting to murder a woman by hitting her with a wooden plank due to a lack of evidence
38-year old Christopher Cachia has been cleared of attempting to murder a woman by hitting her with a wooden plank due to lack of evidence.
Cachia had been charged over the 2018 incident, which took place at Siggiewi and which left the woman grievously injured. He had also been charged with attacking another man and breaching the peace in relation to the incident.
In a court decision handed down this morning, magistrate Yana Micallef Stafrace observed that the victim did not want to testify against her aggressor, as the argument was a family one, and the situation had since improved. Neither did the other victim wish to testify.
The magistrate, therefore, acquitted the man due to lack of evidence.
Inspector Roderick Agius prosecuted.
Lawyers Franco Debono, Marion Camilleri and Amadeus Cachia were defence counsel.
