Hungarian charged with murdering partner

Police charge 57 year-old Hungarian with murdering partner, stabbing her 40 times.

A 57 year-old Hungarian man was tonight remanded in custody by a Magistrate after pleading not guilty to murder.

Laszlo Nandor Marton was accused with the voluntary murder of his Hungarian partner and mother-of-two Yvette Gajda, allegedly stabbing her 40 times. The incident took place in an apartment in St. Paul's Bay on November 27 last year.

Marton, was arrested at the scene of the crime with a number of self-inflicted scissor wounds.

He was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital suffering from serious, though non-life-threatening, injuries, and was later kept at Mount Carmel Hospital.

Magistrate Francesco Depasquale who presided the arraignment denied bail to the accused and ordered that Marton be kept under preventative custody at Corradino Prisons.

Inspectors Keith Arnaud and Jessica Grima prosecuted.
