Driver gets €6,600 fine, three years driving ban for causing fatal incident

Clint Xuereb, 24 of Naxxar was fined €6,000 and handed a three year driving ban for causing the causing the death of his passenger through negligent driving under the influence of alcohol in 2010.

Clint Xuereb, 24 of Naxxar was this morning handed a €6,600 fine and banned from driving for the next three years, after he was found guilty of causing the death of 18 year-old Yana Scerri in a serious car crash in Bahar ic-Caghaq in December 2010.

Xuereb was found to have been driving under the influence of alcohol, and at an excessive speed, causing his Opel Corsa to veer off the Coast Road in Bahar ic-Caghaq, hit a lamp post, overturn and smash onto the rocks.

The prosecution, led by Police Inspectors Elton Taliana and Robert Vella proved their case against Xuereb, who had a previous conviction for cannabis.

That's how fines and bans should be if we want to have some discipline on our roads. What i hope is that the sentence is not reversed in an appeal. As to comment by elwenzu, i agree with him - who will be enforcing the driving ban?

He virtually got away with it. Who will enforce the driving ban? Certainly not the police force.
