Updated | Woman run over by minister’s vehicle not in critical condition

A young woman was run over by finance minister Edward Scicluna’s car in Floriana at Porte des Bombes.

A young Gozitan woman, a university student, was today run over by the finance minister Edward Scicluna’s car in Floriana.

The minister, who was in the vehicle, stayed on site until the woman was taken to hospital by ambulance. He was then was taken to his ministry in Valletta in another car.

The police confirmed that the woman was run over in Floriana by a BMW 5-series at around 2pm. The police also said that the woman was hospitalised. Her condition has now improved and is not critical.

The black BMW’s windscreen was cracked following the impact.

Minister Edward Scicluna visited the girl in hospital.

Health minister Godfrey Farrugia, who happened to be passing by in another car, gave first aid before the ambulance arrived.

MaltaToday is informed that the woman was run over as she was attempting to cross the busy dual carriageway next to Porte des Bombes in Floriana.

The 18-year-old woman was crossing the road together with two other persons after alighting from a bus. Instead of using the underpass, the three young persons attempted to cross the road despite the lack of a zebra crossing.
