Power lifter accuses police commissioner of inaction
Protest alleges that no action was taken against members of the police force in spite of criminal complaint being filed

A former World and European power lifting champion has filed a judicial protest accusing the Commissioner of Police of failing to take action against a police officer who he claims “ridiculed and threatened” him.
65-year-old Francis Spiteri claims to have won several World and European powerlifting and squat competitions, breaking a number of world and European records in the process.
The protest alleges that fellow members of the Malta Drug Free Power Association, Police Sergeant Kris Mintoff and police constable Ryan Agius, were obstructing him, preventing him from taking part in any other competitions.
Spiteri also claimed that Agius threatened Spiteri in a telephone conversation five months ago, further alleging that Sergeant Mintoff deceived and ridiculed him, and withheld important information on competitions from the plaintiff.
The protest reads that in spite of his reporting the incident at the Cospicua police station and his request that criminal action be taken against Agius, the Police Commissioner “abusively and illegally failed to take action”.
Spiteri is holding the Commissioner of Police responsible for any damages he might suffer.
Lawyer Frank Cassar signed the protest.
