Man caught with pictures of nude children, released on bail

The accused, who pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography, will be sentenced in the coming weeks.

A 37-year-old Swieqi resident has been released on bail pending sentencing after he pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography this afternoon.

Keith Falzon admitted to possession of hundreds of pictures depicting nude children, which had been found by the police on an SD card. The photographs did not consist of hardcore pornography.

Police Inspectors Sylvana Briffa and Edel Mary Camilleri told the court how, when approached by police officers at around 7.30pm on Saturday evening, the man had assaulted them and resisted arrest, causing slight injuries to a policewoman.

He also pleaded guilty to charges of disobeying legitimate police orders and committing an offence whilst under a suspended sentence handed down in 2013.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri warned Falzon that if he persisted in his guilty plea, he would have no option but to send him to prison. Falzon did not change his plea.

The court will deliver its sentence on 28 May. Falzon was released on bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000.

Lawyer Roberto Montalto made submissions on behalf of Falzon.
