Mosta man denies cannabis trafficking, cocaine possession

Lawyer tells court that his client is not a drug trafficker or a hardened criminal

A man from Mosta has been released on bail after he was arraigned on drugs charges, just two days short of 40th birthday.

Police Inspectors Nikolai Sant and Justine Grech charged Brian Zammit, who turns 40 on Friday, with cultivating twelve cannabis plants in his basement, possession of cannabis in circumstances which indicated that it was not for his personal use and possession of a small amount of cocaine.

Zammit’s lawyer, Edward Gatt, told Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera that his client was pleading not guilty to the charges. He gave the aggravating circumstances mentioned in the charges as the reason behind this plea, denying that Zammit was a drug trafficker or a hardened criminal.

The court granted Zammit bail against a deposit of €1,000 and a personal guarantee of €4,000. She also ordered him to sign a bail book three times a week. As all his assets.
