A 45-year-old Italian national has been handed an 18-month sentence after he admitted to taking delivery of a Range Rover which had previously been reported stolen in the UK.

Andrea Benini, of St. Julian's, had been charged with knowingly receiving or purchasing stolen goods in August last year. The following November, the court ordered the Director of Probation and Parole Services to draw up a report, which was subsequently confirmed on oath in December.

In view of his guilty plea, Magistrate Aaron Bugeja jailed Benini for 18 months, suspended for two years, also placing him under a supervision order. Benini was additionally ordered to complete 100 hours of community service.
