Airport shop assistant was accused of stealing €2,000 from a pouch that was left behind at a shop

An airport shop sales assistant has been released on bail after he denied helping himself to €2,000 from a pouch which had been left behind by a customer.

Inspector Silvio Magro charged Shaun Grima, 28, with the theft of the waist pouch, cash and a Visa credit card which belonged to an unnamed Singaporean national.

Grima was also charged with failing to inform the police when he noticed that someone had misplaced the pouch.

Grima pleaded not guilty to the charges. His lawyers, Giannella De Marco and Gianluca Caruana Curran requested bail.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit granted the accused bail against a deposit of €200 and a personal guarantee of €5,000.
