Two deny grievously injuring their fighting flatmates

Djibril Ganiou from Togo and Caroline Magri from Malta were charged with assaulting and grievously injuring Mamadou Diallo and Mohammed Jallow

Two persons have been released on bail after appearing in court, charged with assaulting and injuring two of their flatmates.

Inspector Jeffrey Scicluna arraigned Djibril Ganiou from Togo and Caroline Magri before magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona yesterday, accusing them of grievous bodily harm and assault.

The pair had told police that late at night on the 22nd August, upon their return to the Floriana apartment which they shared with other members of the local African community, they had found two of the other occupants fighting.

The accused claimed to have tried to separate them, but had been drawn into the scrap, with the result that the two fighting flatmates, Mamadou Diallo from Gunieau and Mohammed Jallow, suffered injuries to the face and eyes.

Ganiou and Magri, assisted by lawyers Franco Debono, Marion Camilleri and Amadeus Cachia, pleaded not guilty and asked to be released from arrest.

The court granted them bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000.
