A 32-year-old Polish man has died after being rescued on Wednesday, having experienced difficulty while swimming in Comino.

A police statement this morning claimed the man died throughout the night, while receiving treatment at Gozo General Hospital.

The man had been brought to shore by means of a helicopter at about 1:00pm on Wednesday.

The Gozo-based voluntary organisation Emergency Response and Rescue Corps (ERRC) said the man had been swimming close to the Crystal lagoon when he experienced difficulty.

The swimmer was approached and assisted by the ERRC Hydro Ambulance and administered CPR, before being hospitalised.
