Self-confessed drug trafficker jailed for two years, nine months

The man has also confessed to violating a probation order issued in 2015 which charged him with trafficking several drugs

A 25-year-old man has been jailed for two years and nine months pleading guilty to trafficking and possession of a panoply of drugs.

Wayne Said from Qormi, had been arrested in August 2016 and charged with trafficking ecstasy, cocaine, heroin, and cannabis.  He also admitted to having violating a probation order issued in October 2015 and with relapsing, having been convicted for another offence in July 2014.

Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras, presiding the Court of Magistrates ruled that in light of the accused’s admission of guilt and on the basis of the evidence the court had seen Said was guilty of all the charges.

For the drug trafficking charges, the court handed down a custodial sentence of 27 months as well as ordering Said to pay  a fine of €2,700. Another 7 months were added to his sentence for breaching his probation order and relapsing, bringing the total sentence to 34 months.

The court also ordered Said to pay court expenses amounting to €5,205 within the next three years.
