Man caught with over 40kg of cannabis in his car

A 26-year-old man was arrested after he was caught with over 40kg of cannabis in his car.

The man, an Imtarfa resident, was stopped by Drug Squad police on Thursday afternoon as he was driving along the Coast Road in Bahar ic-Caghaq. On searching the vehicle, the police discovered a cardboard box containing around 40kg of cannabis grass and a bag containing around 6kg of cannabis resin.

The illegal substances had been prepared for trafficking, the police said.

Magistrate Simone Grech started an inquiry on the case, appointing a number of experts to assist her.

The man is being held under arrest to aid in police investigations, and might be arraigned in court tomorrow morning.
