Electoral Commission denies appointment of party reps to oversee Air Malta flights

Commission says AD spokesperson's claims that party representatives overseeing applications for voters' flights is untrue.

The Electoral Commission has denied claims by AD spokesperson Arnold Cassola that the Commission had asked Air Malta to nominate an employee of their trust, that of the respective political parties, to oversee the applications of voters who want to travel to Malta to vote.

"The Electoral Commission strongly emphasises that it is not in any way involved in this regard or in this process, though it is aware that Air Malta may have adopted such a practice. As in previous similar circumstances, the Electoral Commission is only interested to learn of whoever has been definitively denied the possibility of booking a flight, without possible alternative seating.

"The Electoral Commission is interested in seeing that all eligible voters are given the same opportunity to exercise their vote.  If any person feels that such right has been denied to him or is endangered, he should report his case immediately to the Commission."
