MRA authorises new liquid gas, propane prices
The Malta Resources Authority has authorised a €0.041 cents/kg mark-up on liquid gas sold by Liquigas Malta
The MRA said it carried out an evaluation of the proposed mark-up to establish the “lowest possible prices are charged with the highest quality of petroleum product,”as required by the law.
The first revision should take effect on 2July 2010.
The MRA was requested to review changes in the proposed prices for liquid gas put forward by Liquigas Malta. “The new prices were proposed by Liquigas in the light of the increasing international price of LPG and the adverse fluctuations in the euro/dollar exchange rate,”MRA said. The authority said the price review confirmed that the company had to recover the full cost of operations, import costs, storage and bottling of LPG and propane.
The retail prices of LPG were relatively stable until April 2009. Till then, LPG prices were highly subsidised by government that paid for most of the costs of overheads and fuel prices. Retail prices were revised twice since April 2009. Before April, 2009, a 12kg cylinder was sold at €5.40. The retail price rose to €7.40 on the 1April 2009 and to €10.50 on the 3August 2009.
