Labour's mandatory history course for members leaves bitter taste for some hopefuls
PN organ il-mument reports 'registered Labour members' complain about the party going back on its word on who will be eligible to contest for the local committee elections for 2010 and 2011.
Il-mument reports that members who wanted to contest the elections for the party's local committees were subjected to an obligatory course on the history of the Labour party and national politics.
The courses are obligatory and not attending would mean the candidates could not stand for the elections.
The decision has left some Labour members disappointed at the new rules, who claim they had to take leave from work to attend the courses.
The local committees are village committees usually grouped around the party kazini, which go on to elect delegates who represent the local clubs at the party's highest decision-making body.
