Labour MEP urges EU to prepare for ebola
Marlene Mizzi warns European Commission that failure to prepare for an outbreak will result in thousands of deaths.

In a statement published today, Labour MEP Marlene Mizzi urged the EU to ensure adequate preparations are in place for the possibility of an Ebola outbreak on the continent.
“We must not wait for this virus to reach Europe before acting,” the MP told a plenary session in Strasbourg during a discussion on the issue.
Mizzi asked the Italian-presided commission to give the situation the importance it deserves and to call an extraordinary meeting to prepare for this epidemic.
“Europe has a duty of care towards the victims, their families and health-sector workers to take the necessary steps to ensure their safety, because if this doesn’t happen, thousands more people will die in this epidemic."
