Economy Minister celebrates Independence anniversary in Dubai
Chris Cardona attends the Malta Day celebrations in Dubai – speaks of growing trade relations between Malta and the UAE

Economy Minister Chris Cardona attended the Malta Day celebrations held in Dubai on the 51st anniversary since Malta achieved its independence.
Addressing the guests at the reception, Cardona expressed his great pleasure in celebrating this important anniversary in Dubai, a ministry statement read.
Malta and Dubai formally established diplomatic relations in 1973 and since then both countries have, in different times and circumstances, expressed and extended mutual solidarity when the occasion presented itself.
Cardona said that the relations between the two countries were based on a solid foundation of genuine trust and mutual respect marked by historical events and that both he and the Government of Malta are convinced that they will endure the test of time.
He said that in the past years the government and Malta Enterprise brought delegations of Maltese business leaders to the Gulf region on various occasions.
“Our intention is to build relationships for the long term and through our exchanges over the last 10 years we have demonstrated Malta’s commitment to this region. We believe that trade relations will continue to grow at a steady pace for the years to come,” Cardona said.
Cardona explained that trade between Malta and the UAE was very diverse and ranged from food to chemicals, including oil-based products, and from pharmaceutical products to textiles and fabrics. As relations grow, these sectors and other new ones should be on the increase.
“I am sure that events like these will help cement the already strong ties which exist between our respective countries and furthermore, will see a continued development of diplomatic and economic links for the benefit of all players,” he said.
