A ringed flamingo has been sighted at the Salini area, BirdLife Malta has said.

BirdLife Malta is part of a number of bird ringing research projects, used to determine aspects of birds’ lives such as survival rate, productivity and migration patterns, among others.

The bird has probably flown to Malta from Sardinia or southern France, but BirdLife Malta is currently monitoring the bird to determine its origin

Flamingos are typically attracted to the habitat of the Salini area and they normally seek out such habitats to breed. They are particularly rare in Malta, and the public is urged to get in touch immediately with BirdLife in cases of sightings, on [email protected] or by calling +356 21347 645/6 during working hours. On evenings and weekends one may contact BirdLife Malta on +356 7925 5697.
