Siġġiewi bomb scare turns out to be false alarm

A bomb disposal unit dispatched to Siġġiewi this morning following reports of a suspicious package. 

The package was discovered in a plant that was located in the drive way of a residence on Triq Wied il-Ħasri, leading to a garage. It was reported to the police at 7:45am.

Local media cites two workers who described the package as “an object wrapped in brown tape with wires coming out of it.”

People were evacuated from their homes and moved some 200 metres away from the site, where an ambulance is also on the scene.

Police sources confirmed at 9:30am that no explosives were found in the package, although they were unclear about its exact contents.
