Ggantija more popular than Hagar Qim with 207,811 visits in 2017

October and May were the most popular months for visiting the Neolithic Temples in Xaghra

The Ggantija Temples in Gozo were visited 207,811 times in 2017, contrasting with 176,510 visits to Hagar Qim in the same year.

The most popular month for visiting the temples proved to be October, with 26,377 visitors in that month alone followed by May with 23,220.

Ggantija is a megalithic temple complex from the Neolithic and is situated in Xaghra, Gozo. The temples are slated to be older than the Egyptian pyramids.

2017 proved the most popular year for visiting the temples as the numbers of visitors per month exceeded the numbers visiting in previous years.

This statistic was tabled in Parliament by Culture Minister Owen Bonnici to a question posed by PN MP Toni Bezzina.
